STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Three

 

A RESOLUTION calling for the federal government to preserve and protect Medicare and Social Security without cuts to benefits.

 

Whereas, the Social Security Act of 1935 established, among other things, the Social Security Administration; and

Whereas, social security drastically reduced poverty among seniors and the disabled in the United States; and

Whereas, Medicare was created under Title XVIII of the Social Security Act of 1965; and

Whereas, Medicare is an invaluable program to older Americans and Americans with certain health conditions, as it provides them with coverage for medical purposes; and

Whereas, both of these important programs are under constant attack by lawmakers who seek to make cuts to benefits in the name of "entitlement reform"; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the New Hampshire house of representatives requests the federal government make an immediate and concerted effort to preserve the longevity of Social Security and Medicare without cutting benefits for future generations of Americans who will certainly also need these programs; and

That copies of this resolution, signed by the speaker of the house of representatives be forwarded by him to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and to each member of the New Hampshire congressional delegation.
