It shall be the duty of the Committee on Public Works and Highways to consider all matters pertaining to the development and repair of public highways; the Highway Fund; the Turnpike Fund; buildings and capital construction; the capital budget; matters pertaining to state bonding authority; capital expenditures related to the improvement and preservation of the coastline; the care of state memorials and monuments; and such other matters as may be referred to it.

Personal Biography
Karen Ebel is the former Deputy Speaker under Speaker Steve Shurtleff and is serving her fifth term representing New London and Newbury. She has served served terms as member of the House Public Works and Highways Committee. She recently chaired the Recycling and Solid Waste Management Legislative Study Committee, focusing on the state's increasing solid waste disposal challenges. She has served on multiple legislative statutory committees, including the IT Council, the State Parks Advisory Council, the Exotic Weeds and Aquatic Species Committee and the Oil Fund Disbursement Board.Karen is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and Trinity College (VT). The Ossipee native returned to her home state in 1988, moving to New London, after practicing law in Washington, DC for several years as a corporate attorney. Karen has served on many boards, including The Nature Conservancy, the American Cancer Society and almost two decades on the New London Planning Board. She is now a member and officer of the New London Hospital board of trustees.
