Senator Charles "Chuck" Morse is a Republican from Salem serving his 8th term representing District 22, which is comprised of the towns of Atkinson, Pelham, Plaistow, and his hometown of Salem.

He was elected the 130th President of the State Senate in December of 2020, having previously held the position from 2013-2018. Those four terms make him the longest serving President in the Senate’s history.

Due to the fact New Hampshire does not elect a lieutenant governor, the Senate President also serves as “acting governor” whenever the governor travels out of state or is otherwise unable to perform the duties of the office.

Senator Morse is the former Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and during his tenure, guided the Senate through four budgets. He has also been a member of the Fiscal, Ways & Means, Transportation and Capital Budget Committees.

The senator’s legislative accomplishments include, most notably, championing the first business tax reductions in more than 20 years during the 2015-16 Session, as well as securing funding to complete the I-93 expansion project which will allow greater access to travelers in and out the Southern tier of the state.

From 1999-2002, he spent two terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives serving the towns of Salem and Windham. In 2006, he was the Republican nominee for Executive Council for the state's third district. He has also served his local community as both town moderator and selectman.

Sen. Morse is the recipient of numerous awards for his work as a legislator, including the Josiah Bartlett Center Libertas Award (2013), the Carl Johnson Legislative Leadership Award from the NH Healthcare Association (2013), Legislator of the Year from the NH Association of Counties (2013). Additionally, he was recognized for his Dedication and Leadership on Healthcare Legislation from Elliot Health Systems in 2014, the Bill Brown Distinguished Businessperson of the Year Award (1997), the Richard P. McCoy Award from the Salem Boys and Girls Club (1994) and the prestigious John P. Ganley Award in recognition of his service to the community and for his support of the Salem Boys and Girls Club.

Away from the State House, Sen. Morse is President of Freshwater Farms & Garden Center in Atkinson. He is a graduate of Plymouth State University with a B.A. degree in business and has served as a Trustee of the University of New Hampshire. Chuck lives in Salem with his wife, Susan.
