Senator John S. Barnes Jr., R-Raymond

Sen. John "Jack" S. Barnes Jr., a Republican, returned to the New Hampshire Senate in November 2000 after previously serving in the body for six years from 1992 to 1998. Prior to his original election in 1992, Barnes served two terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.

The senator is a member of the Election Law and Veterans Affairs Committee and the Public and Municipal Affairs Committee.

Now retired, Barnes is a former small-business owner, having operated several McDonald's restaurant franchises. Last year, he was recognized as Legislator of the Year by the New Hampshire Business Council for his efforts to help the state's small-business community. Barnes served in the military, and is a strong advocate for the rights of veterans. He is married and has three children.
