Committee Function:
It shall be the duty of the Committee on Ways and Means to examine and consider the state of the treasury; to consider and report on all bills and resolutions relating to raising money by a state tax and the apportionment of same; matters relating to taxes and fees on tobacco; all dedicated funds except for the highway and turnpike funds; state fees, and all methods of raising revenue for the state; and such other matters as may be referred to it. The Committee on Ways and Means shall report to the House in the form of a resolution its estimates of state revenues on a periodic basis.

Rep. Southworth grew up in Norwich, Vt. He is a lifelong educator who attended Norwich Elementary School and Hanover High School. He enjoyed learning and had many favorite teachers. He has education degrees from three New Hampshire colleges: Dartmouth (BA), Keene State (MEd) and UNH (CAGS). He has worked in education for 41 years as a reading teacher, school counselor, and administrator.

Rep. Southworth believes strongly in his new role as a state representative for Dover.

Local Government Involvement
He is currently a selectman for Ward 4 in Dover, and has been a board member of the non-profit Dover Children’s Center for many years. Recently, he was on the Future Visions committee to plan for the needs of Dover High School.
