There will be a briefing on childcare issues, sponsored by the National Conference of State legislatures (NCSL). The briefing will be held in Rooms 306-308 of the Legislative Office Building on Friday, January 8, 1999, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be served. This meeting will feature national policy specialists and speakers who will discuss other states approaches. It will be an excellent opportunity for the New Hampshire legislators to learn about key issues and participate I substantive policy discussions. The briefing will cover a wide range of early childhood issues, including the state's role in working with businesses on childcare, credentialing childcare providers, as well as provider training, education and compensation, and regulatory concerns. In addition, NCSL's childcare project coordinator will discuss strategies that state policymakers are using to address recent discoveries in brain development in young children. He will also provide an overview of significant state child care approaches and key research, as reported in the NCSL's recent legislator's guide to child care policy. Please RSVP to Rep. Mary Jane Wallner at 224-1632 by December 28th.
